This post is a 55 fiction  - 55 Fiction is a form of micro-fiction that refers to the works of fiction limited to a maximum of fifty-five words.

Son, I have done nothing wrong, this is the best I could do.
Please forgive me if possible & let me be free from guilt.

Dad, past is past, some wounds cannot be healed.
I want to forgive you, but I am sorry I really can’t.
Some things are best left unsaid.

It's difficult to encapsulate a whole story in merely 55 words. I can't say I understood what happened between the two..but it was really creative :)

All the best for the Blog A Ton contest

Here's my entry

Unfortunately it is not always 'best' to leave things unsaid ..maybe the son will realize it before it is too late!

You have beautifully captured the akwardness in accepting an apology especially from someone senior to you whom you are supposed to respect. Best of luck for the Blog-a-ton. You can find my Blog-a-ton entry here In search of freedom

Regardless of the reasons that created the repentance and estrangement, the manner in which you have drawn forth the palpable yearning to be free of the events is unarguably compelling.
And your pithy expression adds to the charm of your writing.

Good one dude... there can be countless derivations from this. But I did not understand one thing - the father says that he has done nothing wrong, but still apologizes ?

Thank you all for taking out time to stop by & much needed wonderful feedback.
@Pri, indeed this says a lot, after all its not fiction but my own personal life story ! yes we can be relaxed if someone forgives us.

@CRD, the intention here was to make the reader wonder & imagine a suitable thing, yes there can be many possible assumptions to this story.

@SIS, yes some things are best left unsaid, but are they really unsaid, when the other person knows them, with most certainty.

@Sowmya, Thanks & wish you too very best of luck, i tried to make it close to the heart story, afterall its between father & son.

@aativas, here in this story son has taken his time to realize & change himself to accept the situation, he has grown up in that & evolved, but still though he wants to forgive he can't because it may be too big a loss for him, he is not a saint, he is ordinary man, how can raise himself to that level of greatness where he intends to be a common man.

@Sadiya, thanks for the comment & i am surprised that u were so eager to know the reason behind the story, NO, how can it be silly as not picking from school or beating his kid, it has to be something big in son;s perspective perhaps dad missed to get the thing's importance inn the first place & then committed the same mistake rest of the life. lets say it has something to do with dad ignorant of something which son loved more than his life, hope i have successfully driven u away from the actual reason ? u know somethings are better left unsaid !

@The fool, Does age really matter when the reason behind apology is big enough to keep one unhappy whole life ?

@Aashish, ya this short story leaves the reader puzzled & wondering about the reason behind this apology, but trust me there was a big enough reason, its just too personal to reveal it.

@Psych Babbler, when we are angry, we feel never we can forgive a person, but this assumption changes with he passage of time, doesn't it ? a person reluctant to realize it as his mistake over many years , slowly realizes the impact on the other person & finally admits & asks sorry.

@ The critics, yes both can never be free, it in son;s hand now to come to terms with his dad pleading for forgiveness, he must raise himself to greatness level by forgiving his dad. both can be at peace only then !

@Brijender, Thanks for appreciation of writing to bring out the scene well, well its easy to write & make a scene alive especially if you have been through that pain yourself, writing it as a fiction is just a pretext.

@D2, thanks & good to know that i have succeeded to bring out the feelings & the pain of lifetime in just a couple of conversations.

@Nidhi, thanks for appreciation of the writing, actually this was my first 55-fiction, but as i said this was easy to express coz its more of a reality than being a fiction.

55 fiction isn't an easy genre of writing and you have pulled it quite nicely leaving the post with open interpretations at the end. Short and crisp and soulful!!
Good Luck for BAT-23 :)

Life can be very grave at times, mostly because of how we perceive it, it's not easy to break free from the usual strains of melancholy especially in times of distress but we must always try. I think you've summed up what one can write a book about in barely 55 words and that's noteworthy. I'm glad I dropped by.
